Joy of Sports
When
the Joy of Sports expanded its children’s sports programs from Washington
D.C. to San Diego, California, they made excellent use of the ARDON
Resource Clearinghouse. A data search was conducted to identify
local foundations with interests that matched with the Joy of Sports’
purpose to serve low-income children. The Joy of Sports provides
life skills training and activities as the core element of their
sports programs. This data search saved their staff endless hours
of research. Among several foundations identified with matching
interests, they applied to the San Diego Community Foundation. That
match resulted in a generous grant from the foundation.
The Joy of Sports also wanted to develop collaborations with like-minded organizations. An additional search was conducted to identify organizations with similar missions. This search resulted in creating productive collaborations and joint fundraising activities. The NFL Players Association was among the first organizations to collaborate with the Joy of Sports, making it possible for both groups to serve more children in San Diego County.
